On a frigid, bright Friday morning last week, 60 members and friends of CWIP gathered virtually to take time for themselves. The second in the Friday Share series, which began earlier this year, was focused on “Prioritizing Ourselves” and came out of member survey results highlighting the need for self-care during the pandemic. The event was hosted by CWIP board members and membership committee co-chairs Lindsey George and Freeda Warren. Freeda led the group in a guided meditation to start the event, and both chairs talked about the importance of self-care for women and those working the nonprofit—who often serve as caregivers and give so much of themselves. As Freeda said, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.”
To give time and space for our members’ well-being during these challenging times, the CWIP event served to acknowledge the hardships faced and prioritize ways we can care for ourselves. Attendees participated in smaller breakout groups, sharing challenges and individual strategies for self-care. The larger group then reconvened to share take-aways. Some of the examples participants gave of self-care strategies included: communicating our needs to others, reminding ourselves of small wins/opportunities for gratitude, and solo-dance parties (look out, Beyonce). Event hosts shared additional resources for self-care with the group, and opportunities for continued connection.
Don’t forget to sign up for next month’s Friday Share series, to be held March 5th and every first Friday morning. Our March 5th session will feature recruiters in the nonprofit sector sharing how to position yourself for career success. This is just one way CWIP continues to engage and support members as we navigate these challenging times, both personally and professionally.
Shout out to attendee Gayle Nelson, for her lush green Zoom background that reminded us of spring days to come! #whozoomedbestCWIP
